Our Technology
At Advanced Orthopedic Specialists, we have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars to ensure that our patients receive state-of-the-art care with the latest available technology, taking your orthopedic care to a whole new level. Please read more about some of our highly specialized equipment below.
Digital X-Ray
Our Digital X-Ray System
We have recently installed a brand new IDC digital x-ray system. While most hospitals have recently upgraded to "CR" systems, we went one step further to a "DR" system; that means there are no cassettes for the tecnicians to process. This technology helps us and patients by providing: faster x-rays, less radiation (we can adjust images digitally as opposed to re-taking them), easier copies for patients/physicians, physician access world-wide from any computer or operating room, and redudant offsite backup of all the images. This system also is part of our paperless office with fully electronic medical records.

Electronic Medical Records
The federal government has strongly suggested that all physicians adopt electronic medical records within the next decade. At AOS, we have already had such a system in place for the last five years! The advantages of electronic medical records are numerous: more accurate and complete documentation of a patient's illness, faster communication to your primary care physician and messaging within our office, easier ability to make copies of your medical record for you or your insurance company, improved cross-checking of your allergies when prescribing medications, better portability of your medical information if you move, and more. We have gone the extra step towards having a completely paperless office by scanning in all paper information that comes into the office (e.g., outside reports, handwritten information from you, etc.). To accomplish this, we have specialized equipment and full-time personnel to scan the information properly into the correct section of the chart. At your visit, you will note computers throughout our office, and often, one of our physicians or physician assistants will bring in a wireless laptop into your exam room.

DEXA Scanner

Our state-of-the-art
DEXA scanner
Dual-Xray Absorbimetry Scanning is the gold-standard for measuring bone density and checking for osteoporosis. At Advanced Orthopedics, we take preventing injury very seriously; by routine checking of bone density for patients at risk (e.g., post-menopausal women), we can identify problems that can often be remedied with simple vitamins or medications. Our hospital-grade scanner also has the ability to perform imaging of the spine to identify vertebral compression fractures, that frequently patients are unaware they have.
Ultrasound

Our Ultrasound Machine
We are pleased to offer ultrasonic diagnosis in our office. Ultrasound is very useful for examining shoulders for rotator cuff tears, and we frequently use it for patients who are claustrophobic and cannot tolerate an MRI machine. It is also useful in draining cysts in knees. While many physicians will send patients to radiology departments in hospitals for joint injections in the hip, we are able to perform most of these in our office under ultrasound guidance, thereby sparing you and extra trip, and also avoiding the radiation exposure.
Physical Therapy
We have extensive equipment in physical therapy, including Cybex machines. We are also one of the few practices in Michigan to have a Galileo 2000 vibratory stimulus machine. Learn more about our physical therapy department and its equipment.
